Volunteering at Marangu Hospital is more than just a professional experience—it's a deeply human one. Here in the foothills of Mount Kilimanjaro, our local medical team works tirelessly to provide compassionate, high-quality care to the people of our rural community. Volunteers from around the world bring their expertise to support that mission—and in return, they leave with a wealth of knowledge, perspective, and connection.
Doctors, nurses, and healthcare professionals trained in Western settings work side by side with our Tanzanian team. Together, they exchange skills, stories, and clinical insights—always with the goal of doing what’s best for the patient in front of them.
But working in rural Tanzania isn’t for everyone. While education, training, and experience are important, the most successful volunteers are those who bring something more:
We have an exceptional, caring team at Marangu Hospital. Many have years of experience working in resource-limited settings and are eager to share their knowledge with visiting colleagues. We welcome doctors from all specialties, though we especially value those comfortable practicing primary care in a generalist setting.
We also encourage volunteers to teach, formally or informally, as part of their visit—whether through clinical mentorship, bedside teaching, or sharing specialized knowledge with our staff.
